Coffee
has deep roots in the veins of the
von der Luhe Family.

|
Great-grandfather Friedrich, a lawyer in the north-eastern part of Germany, the Province of Mecklenburg, sold his agricultural estate there in 1929 and left Germany. Together with his family he started a new life in Tanzania, then Tanganyika. With his son Reinard he build up a coffee plantation. In 1939, with the start of World War II, and being German, the plantation was confiscated and the family evacuated back to Germany. |
Grandfather Reinard - 1952, after the turbulences of the War were over, was drawn back to Africa. Together with part of his family, Reinard started farming and growing coffee again, this time in Angola, West-Africa.
|
| Father Detlef - 1960, joined
a Farmers’ Cooperative in Florida, to get experience in the marketing
of farm products, to later join his father in Angola. However, with
political turbulences in Angola 19 61, the plantation had to be given up
and the family returned back to Germany. Detlef joined the Melitta Group
and became President of Melitta Pacific Ltd., marketing coffee and
coffee making equipment throughout the entire Pacific Region between
1971 and 1995.
Nikolaus and Diana von der Luhe have settled in Hawaii. They have four children , Vanessa , Catherine, Hardy, and Robert Kealii O Ke Kai.
Diana was born in Weymouth, England,
then lived in Florida and South Africa before settling in Hawaii. Nik
was born in Germany, then lived in South Africa, Holland , Indiana and
in Hong Kong.
|

|
| Early in 1996 , Nik and Diana bought 4 1/2 acres of prime coffee land in the Kona coffee belt. They have established a thriving Bed and Breakfast*, set on their working coffee farm.
Both thoroughly enjoy an excellent cup of coffee and sharing the passion for coffee with their guests.
After many years of Inn keeping, the von
der Luhe's moved to Germany to be closer to family. In 2005 they
relocated once again, but this time to Hong Kong due to Nik’s career.
“This is quite a change for us all, but we are having fun living in the
fast paced city of Hong Kong! We have left our beautiful Bed and
Breakfast in the capable hands of Fred and Laura Keener and hope to
return to Cedar House Bed & Breakfast and Coffee Farm in the near
future”.
Fred and Laura Keener took over the
management of Cedar House July 2005.
They invite you to be their guests at Cedar House, and to enjoy the
taste of von der Luhe 100% Kona Estate Coffee.
